It was just last Monday that Atlanta Braves’ Spencer Strider took the mound against the Chicago Cubs (5 IP/ 5 H/ 3 ER/ 3 BB/ 1 K), putting up a strong performance, but it led to a loss in extra innings.
Although Strider felt his slider still wasn’t his best, and that the Cubs’ offense was timing when to swing on them, his trajectory is looking slightly promising compared to his disappointing stint in August, when he held a 10.13 ERA.
Also, noting that there was a last-minute change to scratch Strider on this past Sunday’s (September 7th) matchup against the Miami Marlins, placing Joey Wentz in his place.
As reported by MLB Braves’ insider Mark Bowman, it wasn’t an injury-related pull, and most likely had more to do with starting Wentz and Bryce Elder on regular rest.
