KENT COUNTY, Mich. — An overnight house fire in Alpine Township left one man dead Tuesday morning.

The fire was reported at a home in the 3500 block of 4 Mile Road NW around 1:17 a.m. early Tuesday morning. When crews arrived, they found the home in flames. An elderly man was inside the home and did not survive, according to authorities.

The man's neighbors and friends spoke with 13 On Your Side and said they will miss him dearly.

“He was just a little old man, yeah, but he was friendly, very friendly,” said Marvin Andree, a friend of the elderly man.

The 911 call came in just after 1 a.m. — flames ripped through the home. When firefighters arrived, the house was already consumed by fire.
