(WFRV) - Gov. Tony Evers is recognizing September as Suicide Prevention Month in Wisconsin, urging residents to care for their mental health and check in on friends, family and neighbors.

In a video message, Evers emphasized the importance of support and awareness. He also proclaimed September 7 through 13 as Suicide Prevention Week in line with national and global observations.

"The heartache of losing someone to suicide has become far too common," Evers states.

Anyone in crisis can call, text or chat the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at any time to connect with trained counselors. Additional resources, including local crisis lines, 211 Wisconsin services, and children's mental health tools, are also available through state agencies.
