PHOENIX — The alleged leader of the Arizona Mexican Mafia has reportedly confessed to his involvement in multiple unsolved homicides throughout the state dating back to the 1990s, law enforcement officials said.

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said Paul Eppinger, who is already serving a life sentence in federal prison, has allegedly admitted to being involved in five gang-related murders which had long been unsolved.

Records show Eppinger was sentenced earlier this year to 25 years for each murder offense in Maricopa County. He's also pleaded guilty to another murder case in Pinal County.

The admissions were made as officials were investigating pandemic-related fraud involving numerous Arizona inmates.
