As we shift from summer into early fall, our attitudes as sportsmen and women can change.

For some of us, like me, the chillier temperatures bring on the thought of cooler waters to fish in for some of my favorite species – brown trout, walleyes and smallmouth bass. An early fall also reminds me of the fishing I haven’t done enough of this summer, as I look at my calendar for a day or two to make a note: “Fishing Day – No Matter What.”

One of my favorite memories of this time of year is a day on the river from many years ago, when we caught chunky, feisty smallmouth and hunted early-season Canada geese. That memory is a postcard in my mind with a large printed saying across it that reads, “Wild and Wonderful.”
