PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) -- UGI Utilities is warning customers about potential scam phone numbers listed on fake ads that can be found through internet searches.

The natural gas and electric utility company says it has been alerted that customers are finding sponsored online ads that are tricking people into calling an incorrect number when they need assistance.

The ads, posted by scammers attempting to get sensitive information as well as money, typically have customers call in to these fake numbers and convince them they must pay to have someone come to their home to help them with issues.

UGI reminds customers that if they believe they smell natural gas or suspect that there is a leak, they should evacuate immediately and call 911 or call UGI at (800) 276-2722. If customers need any help
