Danielle Smith and her provincial government have narrowed the scope of their controversial school library book bans following the Edmonton Public School board’s list was leaked, including many classic literature books.
The new wording says that the new restrictions include solely visual depictions, meaning that sexual actions described in text form are no longer under the scrutiny of the government.
This new restriction allows books like Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale , while still disallowing books like Maia Kobabe’s Genderqueer .
