The homeless population in the Houston area ticked up slightly from 2024 to 2025, with the Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County and its partners counting 3,325 total homeless people during their annual point-in-time count this year.

A total of 1,282 people slept on the streets during the count, while 2,043 stayed in shelters. During the point-in-time count in 2024, there were 1,107 people living outside and about 2,173 people sleeping in shelters for a total homeless population of 3,280.

Ben King, clinical assistant professor in the University of Houston's medical school, analyzed the data after the survey, which was conducted from Jan. 27-30. He said the relatively steady year-to-year trend in Houston came despite record levels
