“Fire and Ice.” That’s the nickname for University High running back tandem senior Sage Ingram and junior Corbin Odell.
The new name for the duo originated from the pair’s parents and quickly spread to other players on the Cubs. For Ingram, “Ice” has been a nickname of his for years as he grew up. But when Odell began getting called “Fire,” he just thought it was funny.
While the pair laugh at the nicknames, their play on the field leaves opposing defenses little to smile about. Ingram ran for 121 yards on 14 carries in the Cubs’ season opener against Woodlawn. Odell came in and added 87 yards on 12 rushes. The two combined for three touchdowns in a 49-8 win.
