A current Bridgeport city councilor – Alfredo Castillo - was among eight people who appeared in court for election related charges in Bridgeport on Tuesday.
Some entered not guilty pleas. Others were there for updates on their cases as potential plea deals are in the works.

“My client is innocent and will be taking no offer,” Alex Taubes, a defense attorney, said.
Among those facing charges – some of whom did not appear on Tuesday - are two current and one former city councilor.
Most of the eight face charges linked to the 2023 Democratic mayoral primary in the city involving incumbent Mayor Joe Ganim and challenger John Gomes.
Several were charged in connection with the primary in 2019.
