ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The federal fraud trial against former state lawmaker Sheryl Williams Stapleton was pushed back again. Stapleton was set to go on trial at the end of the month after prosecutors said she swindled millions of dollars from Albuquerque Public Schools, funneling the money into a robotics company owned by a friend, Joseph Johnson.
They asked for a delay after Johnson hired a new attorney. The judge granted that request, setting the trial for March 31, 2026. This is the sixth time that Williams Stapleton had her federal trial delayed.
