MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (KWWL) — The number of Legionnaires’ disease cases in north central Marshalltown has risen to 34, according to the latest update from the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday.

The number of deaths from the disease remains at one since the outbreak investigation began.

Legionnaires' disease, caused by Legionella bacteria, thrives in warm water environments and spreads through aerosolized water droplets. It is not contagious, and most healthy individuals do not become ill after exposure to the bacteria.
