ORLANDO, Fla. – On Wednesday, Orlando city leaders held a ceremonial groundbreaking for renovations coming to some green spaces in Orlando’s College Park neighborhood.

Planned improvements coming to Albert Park include a new pavilion with a stage, updated landscaping and lighting, new seating and a viewing area.

To make room for these changes, an iconic oak tree , that fell during a storm in 2020, was removed.

City leaders said the tree was encroaching on the sidewalk and it would cost about $200,000 to try to relocate it.

The city says it still wants to keep the legacy of the old oak tree alive so on Wednesday they handed out 50 Albert Park oak seedlings grown from its acorns.
