PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Candidates looking to enter the special election for the newly vacant Ward 2 seat on the Providence City Council have until Sept. 26 to do so, according to the city.
The Providence Board of Canvassers and Registration issued a warrant to hold a special election to fill the vacancy left by Helen Anthony. The council formally accepted Anthony's resignation last week.
The board announced on Tuesday afternoon that the special election will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2, with a primary scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 4.
Anyone seeking to run is required to file a declaration of candidacy with the Board of Canvassers between Sept. 25 and Sept. 26 at 4 p.m., the city said.
