SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WBAY) - A crime that targets teens is seeing a massive increase in today’s digital age.

It’s called “sextortion,” when someone threatens to release embarrassing or sexual material unless a victim sends money or more compromising pictures.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice is working to raise awareness, after reporting a 73% increase in cyber tips related to sextortion this year, compared to 2024.

Perpetrators of crime are most commonly targeting teen boys; ninety percent of victims are between the ages of 14 and 17.
