NEW ROCHELLE – The driver of a Hino box truck was killed minutes after midnight on Tuesday, September 9 when the vehicle rear-ended a tractor-trailer on I-95 southbound in the City of New Rochelle.

The victim, whose name was not released by State Police, was pronounced dead at the scene when the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames.

An investigation by the Hawthorne Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Troop K Collision Reconstruction Unit found that a 2026 Peterbilt tractor-trailer was traveling southbound in the right lane and had slowed down due to an active construction zone with a lane closure.

The box truck struck the rear of the slowed 18-wheeler.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
