NEWFIELD, NY (WENY) -- A Newfield man is charged with several crimes after a four-year-old child fatally overdosed from fentanyl last year.

Thirty-one year old Justin Fenton was indicted by a Tompkins County grand jury on charges of second degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and tampering with physical evidence.

According to New York State Police, troopers were dispatched to a home in Newfield on June 30, 2024 for a report of a four-year-old boy unconscious and not breathing. The child later died at the hospital.

An autopsy revealed the cause of death as fentanyl toxicity. According to police, Fenton's drug use led to the child being exposed to a lethal dose of fentanyl.
