LA MESA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A 61-year-old woman crossing a street outside of a marked crosswalk was hit and killed by a vehicle Monday in La Mesa, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 9:49 p.m. in the 5600 block of Baltimore Drive, the La Mesa Police Department said in a news release Tuesday.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the pedestrian unresponsive and lying in the roadway, according to police.

First responders took the woman to a hospital where she died.

Authorities determined the pedestrian was crossing Baltimore Drive from east to west outside of a marked crosswalk.

The driver of the vehicle did remain at the location and cooperated with law enforcement.

Driving under the influence is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
