TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Some parts of Alabama are nearing drought conditions after much of the state has gone without rain for a while now.

Alabama Forestry Commission leaders said they’re beginning to see an increase in the number of wildfires across the state.

State forestry officials say they’ve fought 32 fires that burned through 300 acres since September 1, and won’t be all that surprised if they see more.

Fall is near when you see those black spiders weaving their web and when you hear dry leaves crunching under your feet.

“We’re moving in the driest part of the year,” said Alabama Forestry Commission Fire Analyst Ethan Barrett.

Because it is so dry, the state is averaging around three fires a day, a number Barrett is certain will jump.
