PHILADELPHIA — Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio never minces his words.

The long-time coach doesn’t protect the feelings of his players. He just tells the truth, whether you like it or not.

Fangio’s defense almost crumbled during the Eagles’ Week 1 victory over the Dallas Cowboys because star defensive tackle Jalen Carter was ejected before the first snap for spitting on quarterback Dak Prescott.

The defense rebounded in the second half and pitched a shutout, but it doesn’t change the fact that Carter put the Eagles in a bad position.

“Well, to be considered a leader, actions speak louder than words,” Fangio said on Tuesday about Carter’s maturity and leadership. “And he’s got to speak with his actions.”
