BOISE, Idaho — Zoo Boise will now be a temporary home for a one-year-old red panda as he awaits his new home.
The zoo's Tuesday announcement shared a picture of Twix, the newest addition to the Virginia R. Bartak Red Panda Passage . His addition brings the facility's current red panda population to five. However, he isn't a stranger since he has ties to Zoo Boise, as his father, Mars, was born there in 2013 to parents Dolly and Winston.
"Twix is part of Boise's red panda legacy," zoo officials said in announcing his arrival.
The new red panda facility was designed to house and breed the endangered species as part of the Red Panda Species Survival Plan, which the Association of Zoos and Aquariums manages. The passage also serves as a temporary home for red pandas when needed.
