HOMEDALE, Idaho — A state record will remain in an Idaho family after a Homedale woman upended her husband's flathead catfish record.

Brandi Holt caught a 44-inch flathead catfish in August, beating her husband, Jared Holt, who had held the prior state record since 2020. Brandi’s monster catfish beats his catch by only two inches.

“I was hesitant to even submit the record,” Holt said in an Idaho Fish and Game news release . “My husband puts in so much time and effort all year trying to beat his own personal best, and it was really his encouragement that convinced me to go ahead and send it in.”

The two explained they were fishing together in the Snake River when Brandi's "rod tip suddenly bowed towards the water," according to Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG).
