LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - You might have noticed that many people are out sick at your workplace or your child’s school.

Doctors’ offices say they’re staying busy.

One Kentucky pediatrician reported seeing roughly 10 sick kids with a variety of illnesses by Tuesday lunchtime.

“Typically, September is one of our slowest months as pediatricians, and it’s not slow,” said Lexington Pediatrician Dr. Elizabeth Hawse.

Dr. Hawse said across the board, there has been an increase in respiratory illnesses.

“A lot of colds, some strep. We’re seeing some croup in the babies and just general viral illnesses. We’re seeing some COVID.”

Dr. Hawse’s office is not the only one seeing patients with COVID. In fact, Baptist Health told WKYT they’re also seeing a high number of cases.
