LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- Democratic lawmakers in both chambers of the state legislature have introduced a package of bills they say would work to prevent and clean up microplastic pollution. Friday, the state Senate heard testimony in support of the proposed legislation.

Microplastics are tiny pieces of plastic that are around the size of a grain of rice or smaller, and they are in a large number of products people use on a daily basis -- including cosmetics, cleaning products, seafood, table salt, and produce. Researchers say nanoplastics, smaller than a fraction of the width of a human hair, can potentially infiltrate cells, and they can accumulate in the body over time.

The bill package, introduced in August, consists of Senate Bills 503, 504, and 505, which mirror House Bills 4766, 4
