SIMMESPORT, La. (KALB) - A Simmesport government employee accused of and arrested on a felony forgery charge avoided having their employment suspended pending a police investigation.
On August 14, KALB first reported the arrest of Gwendolyn Barr, 74, Simmesport Town Clerk. Through confirmation with the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office, booking records reveal was arrested at roughly 1:30 p.m. by the Simmesport Police Department and shortly after, posted a bond set at $2,000. A credible source familiar with the details of the arrest told KALB that the arrest involved the forging of Simmesport Mayor Ted Turner’s signature on official government records.
