There’s a buzz of excitement for those involved with the 55+ BC Games in Nanaimo.
The largest turnout for the games post-COVID will see 2,700 competitors from across the province in the Harbour City for the five-day event.
On the pickleball courts, some picklers were getting a little final practice time on Tuesday before the start of the games. It’s the first time the city has hosted them since 2007.
“It’s high time that we had one here. We have eight beautiful new courts, and they should be used, and this is a good way to do it,” said Pete Korvin, a pickleball competitor.
Pickleball will see the second most competitors for any game events, second only to hockey. Korvin and Anna Edgar have won gold at the games in years past, and Edgar says it’s different having the games at home.
“It
