The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says a new wildfire is burning east of Port Alberni, in the area of Yellow Creek.

BCWS posted the blaze to their wildfire map shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday, and it is estimated to be less than one hectare in size.

In an update shortly before 10 p.m., the wildfire service changed the fire’s status from ‘out of control’ to ‘being held.’

The fire is right between the Mt. Underwood Wildfire, south of Port Alberni, that is listed as ‘being held’, and the Wesley Ridge fire near Cameron Lake. That fire is ‘under control.’

The cause of this latest wildfire is under investigation.
