Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse’s minor league baseball team hasn’t won a playoff series since 1994.

With a win on Tuesday, the Syracuse Mets inched a step closer toward trying to position themselves to end that drought.

Despite needing a bullpen game from their pitching staff, the Mets were powered by home runs from top prospects Ryan Clifford and Jett Williams en route to a 3-2 win over the Worcester Red Sox at NBT Bank Stadium.

The victory helped Syracuse (40-24) move within three games of the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (43-21), who lost Tuesday, for the International League’s second-half — and only remaining — playoff spot.
