It's been a turbulent season for the Chicago Cubs, but with three weeks to go in the regular season, there's not much drama in the standings.

That may have made the Cubs' decision to play it safe with outfielder Kyle Tucker much simpler.

On Tuesday, the Cubs placed Tucker on the 10-day injured list with a calf strain, retroactive to Saturday. He sustained the injury last Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves, and the Cubs took their time deciding whether he would need a longer breather.

The earliest Tucker would be eligible to return is Sept. 16. Catcher Moisés Ballesteros was also recalled from Triple-A Iowa.

Chicago entered play on Tuesday 7 1/2 games out of first place, but eight games clear of the playoff bubble. They'll almost certainly be the fourth or fifth seed in the National L
