SAN DIEGO -- Reds right fielder Will Benson paid a price but held onto the ball after crashing into Petco Park’s right-fence Tuesday night when corralling Jose Iglesias’ fly ball to end the second inning.

In the Reds' contest against the Padres, Benson took at least 10 strides before reaching the warning track. He then jumped to catch the ball, with his upper body absorbing most of the force of the collision.

He lay on his back for nearly five minutes before being helped to his feet by teammates and the Reds’ medical staff. Benson slowly walked to the dugout, rubbing his right shoulder area. He returned to right field to play defense in the bottom of the third.

Benson homered in the top half of the frame to pad the Reds’ lead to 2-0.
