Opportunity came knocking for the Yankees on Tuesday night with the arrival of the Tigers for three games at the Stadium. They made it to the door, but couldn’t get it open.
After winning 18 of their previous 25 games, the Yankees entered the series in striking distance of Toronto for the AL East lead and with a real shot to perhaps overtake the Tigers and Blue Jays for the best record in the American League and the No. 1 seeding for the postseason.
