BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
Several teens were taken into custody in Birmingham last weekend as police cracked down on enforcing the city's curfew ordinance.
Police say the teens, who were out past 11 p.m., were interviewed, taken into custody and had their parents called.
"We commend the parents who arrived on scene to support their children and reinforce the importance of accountability," police said. "Their involvement is essential in keeping our young people safe. Our curfew enforcement is not about punishment. It is about prevention, protection, and preserving the lives of our youth."
All of the teens were released to their parents. Police say 11 curfew violation citations were issued.
Birmingham's curfew applies to children aged 16 and younger. They must be accompanied by a parent or leg
