The City of Chattanooga is making changes to comply with a new state law banning diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) offices across Tennessee.
The “Dismantling DEI Departments Act,” which went into effect earlier this year, requires cities, counties, and state agencies to eliminate programs or positions explicitly tied to DEI initiatives.
Chattanooga Chief of Staff Kevin Roig confirmed the city will dissolve its Office of Equity and Community Engagement, as well as the Office of New Americans. Community engagement efforts will be shifted under the Department of Community Development, while neighborhood services will be moved to the Office of Constituent Services.
