The New England Patriots have made a change to their cornerback room.

D.J. James, a training camp star, has officially been released, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero.

"The Patriots are waiving CB D.J. James today, per his agents Joe DiBenedetto and Andy Simms," Pelissero wrote on X . "A sixth-round pick by Seattle last year, James spent most of his rookie season with New England and was a training camp star this summer. Now, he's headed to waivers."

James may not be without a team for very long as the reigning AFC champions, the Kansas City Chiefs , need help at cornerback.

The need for corners is so deep that CBS Sports writer Josh Edwards labeled it their biggest need before the season even started.
