(FOX40.COM) -- While Northern California is known for hot temperatures during the summer months, cool weather and an unusual chance of rain are in the upcoming forecast.

"A weather system is forecast to move through NorCal the next few days, bringing chances of showers and thunderstorms to portions of the region," the National Weather Service said on social media. "Remember, when thunder roars, head indoors!"

Showers and thunderstorms are forecast mainly in the northern Sacramento Valley and Coastal range.

According to FOX40 Chief Meteorologist Adam Epstein, thunderstorms are more of a possibility for Lake County and the Coastal range on Wednesday. Additionally, there's a greater chance of showers in the Sierra.
