Around 6:09 p.m. on Tuesday, SPD officers conducted a "proactive enforcement stop" at Doray Court and Pixie Drive. During the encounter, a man fled on foot and dropped a loaded handgun, according to SPD. Police said the suspect attempted to retrieve the handgun while officers pursued him.

"Fearing for their safety, officers discharged their firearms, striking the suspect," SPD said. Officers reportedly provided the suspect with medical aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. He was taken to a local hospital, where his current condition
