A senior South Australian police officer remains suspended with pay after appearing in court for the first time on charges of abuse of public office and historical domestic violence assaults.
Mark Andrew Orford, 53, stood silently in the dock of the Adelaide Magistrates Court as it heard the allegations were classified as "complex".
His charges include two assaults dating back to the mid-2000s, an allegation of possessing or using a dangerous article and a charge of being a public officer using information to secure a benefit.
According to court documents, that charge alleges that "being a public officer, improperly used information that he had gained by virtue of his office with the intention of causing injury or detriment to another person".
