Nearly 3 million fewer vehicles entered Manhattan’s central business district in August than during the period before congestion pricing tolling cameras were installed, a 14% reduction, the MTA said Tuesday.

August’s 2.7 million fewer vehicles matched June for the largest monthly reduction totals since January when the MTA began tolling vehicles entering Manhattan at 60 th Street and below to raise $15 billion for transit improvements like new subway and rail cars.

Gov. Kathy Hochul said the end-of-summer statistics are further evidence the controversial tolling program is succeeding despite the Trump Administration’s repeated attempts to get the tolling cameras removed.
