New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is expected in court on Wednesday to answer for last month's federal indictment, charging her and her former New Orleans Police bodyguard Jeffrey Vappie in a yearslong conspiracy to spend public money on travel while concealing their romantic relationship .
Cantrell's will be arraigned at the Hale Boggs Federal Court building in downtown New Orleans in front of U.S. Magistrate Judge Karen Wells Roby. She is represented by attorney Eddie Castaing.
Vappie is due to answer in court on Friday for his role in the conspiracy.
The pair face 18 felony counts, including conspiracy, wire fraud, obstruction of justice, false statements and false statements before a grand jury.
