With the new school year in its third week, Columbia Public Schools is laying the groundwork for the next.
The board of education finalized the 2026-27 calendar during a portion of Monday evening's meeting, Sept. 8. There still was a question regarding what are labeled as snowflake days on the calendar. Board member Jeanne Snodgrass wanted to know how converting a snowflake day into a typical school day would affect teacher professional development days.
The potential conversion of two teacher PD days into school days due to inclement weather is not expected to have an overall impact on required teacher PD, said Michelle Holz, district chief human resources officer.
