STATEN ISLAND, N.Y — Ten speed cameras on Staten Island generated more than $1.6 million in fines and issued nearly 33,000 tickets in a roughly two-month span, according to new data from the city.
These 10 cameras — part of a network of roughly 240 permanent and mobile speed cameras across the borough — issued 32,432 tickets between May 28 and July 28, the latest data from the New York City Department of Finance showed.
This represents nearly 38% of all speed camera tickets issued on Staten Island in that span.
With a $50 fine per speeding ticket, that totals $1.6 million in fines from the top 10 cameras alone.
In total, 86,106 summonses were issued between May 28 and July 28, slightly under the 102,790 summonses issued between March and May of this year, according to the number
