Western Guilford’s best player, the current boys soccer national points leader, was at the wrong field on Aug. 23 as Voyager Academy built a 5-1 lead by halftime.

The large-scale, three-day NCSCA Kickoff Classic was played on multiple fields between WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary and Middle Creek Park. Western had played Cleveland the day before at WakeMed and so Abisai Carmona-Rosales’ parents mistakenly drove him there, thinking that the game that Saturday against Voyager would be played at the same place.

Instead, the senior forward was about 25 minutes north of where his team was playing when he realized he was in the wrong location.

“I contacted my coach,” Carmona-Rosales recalled. “I was like, ‘Coach, where is the field?’”
