STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A treasured waterfront destination for walkers, bikers, and families, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Boardwalk, which runs along the beachfront at South and Midland beaches, has become a source of frustration and concern for many Staten Islanders.
Filled with lifted boards, exposed nails, holes, uneven paths, and worn wood, the boardwalk poses safety risks. During a recent visit, several people were observed nearly tripping, and bikers were seen swerving to avoid exposed nails and lifted boards. Runners were also seen keeping their head down to watch for hazards.
Local residents said the boardwalk is a real safety concern.
