State health officials have detected Jamestown Canyon Virus in two mosquito batches collected in Hudson last month.

The virus is transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito, according to the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

DHHS said the batches were collected on August 20, and located on Speare Road and Sir Issac Way.

These are the first two detections of the virus in Hudson during the 2025 mosquito season, but there have been several others in other communities in the state this year.

As a result, DHHS is raising the risk level for transmission of the virus in Hudson from baseline to moderate for the rest of the season. Mosquito activity is expected to slow down as a result of dry conditions and cooler nighttime temperatures.
