NATO forces are on high alert Wednesday after multiple Russian drones entered Polish airspace overnight. Poland officially asked NATO to activate Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty Wednesday morning, which is a call for NATO members to consult with other on strategy. Article 4 is a precursor to Article 5, which triggers an alliance-wide military response.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said 19 Russian drones repeatedly violated Polish airspace early Wednesday morning, and several which were deemed a threat were reportedly shot down by Polish and allied forces. The drone incursions came as Russian forces launched a massive attack on Ukraine near the Polish border. Polish, Dutch, and Italian aircraft were all scrambled to deal with threat.
