OROVILLE — After receiving $1 million in grant funding for wildfire safety education, the Butte County Board of Supervisors opted to hold off on a potential contract with a marketing firm to implement the funding.

Cal Fire-Butte County Chief Garrett Sjolund sat before the board during Tuesday’s meeting, requesting that the board enter into a $940,944 contract with Blue Flamingo Marketing, a Chico company, to provide community outreach and education regarding fire and defensible space.

“This project will involve a county-wide education and outreach campaign to engage property owners to prevent the spread of fire by clearing defensible space on their property,” Sjolund said.
