GRIDLEY — Decorated with dog paws as eye black, the Gridley High School flag football team made history Monday when it defeated Antelope-based Center in the first flag football game in both Gridley High School and Northern Section history.

The Bulldogs defeated the Cougars 26-6 during an exciting Monday night with an electrifying atmosphere at The Boneyard in Gridley.

“We didn’t know what to expect from Center to be honest because we couldn’t establish film or a scouting report, so we just didn’t know,” said Gridley coach John Cooprider. “We knew we felt really good with the girls we had on the field and we were going to be able to compete, so that’s what we did.”
