HOOVER, Ala (WIAT) – The City of Hoover has begun phase one of electrical work at Hoover Sports Park East in an effort to make the park safe for kids and families again.
Hoover cut power to Sports Park East in February after parents reported sparks of electricity coming from poles, lights, and transformers on the fields, city administrator Ken Grimes said.
“We thought we were looking for an isolated area of the park where there night be something breached, like a power pole hit underground,” Grimes said.
After months of electrical testing, the city realized the issues were far more expansive.
“We identified we had cable deterioration throughout the park, and there are more than 12 fields, so this is a big park,” Grimes said.
