A man is fighting for his life after being 'hit around the head' on a Bolton street.

Emergency services raced out to Gibraltar Street, in Bolton, at around 4.55pm on Tuesday afternoon (September 9).

Greater Manchester Police says it was called out to reports of an assault .

The victim, a 36-year-old man, was rushed to hospital with 'potentially life-threatening injuries'.

The Manchester Evening News understands that the victim is believed to have been hit around the head.

Images from the scene showed a cordon in place on Tuesday evening, with multiple police vehicles and an ambulance in attendance.

GMP is now urging witnesses to come forward, with no arrests made so far.
