OHIO, USA — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting a decrease in fatal crashes statewide during the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer, the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day known for increased roadway risks, but officials say more work is needed to keep drivers safe.
Sergeant Ryan Purpura, a spokesperson for the patrol, said the decline is a promising sign, but every life lost still hits hard.
"Any fatal crash is one too many. Any life lost on the roadways is one too many," Sgt. Purpura said.
Across Ohio, troopers have been focused on education and enforcement, especially regarding impaired driving and seatbelt use, two of the most common factors in deadly crashes.
